A person in a boat throws an anchor overboard?
A person in a boat floating in a small pond throws an anchor overboard. What happens to the level of the pond? a) it rises b) it falls C) it stays the same? I am pretty sure that this is meant to be a trick question, and that the answer has something to do with pressure. What do you think people of the internet?
Chef Mark is the closest to being correct. When in the boat the anchor is displacing a volume of water equal to it's WEIGHT, but when thrown overboard it is displacing a volume of water equal to it's VOLUME.
This means that the level of the water should DROP (fall). *(Assuming of course that the anchor is denser than water)
