Motorized bicycle help?
I have researched this for a while now, and I have some parts, I have a homelite chainsaw engine, a bike with a flat support above the back tire (to mount the engine). The bike has front brakes. I want this to be very simple. I want my bike to be motorized and be one speed, since I dont want to spend the money to buy a clutch that varies in speeds. I am hoping to use the chain and sprocket off the bicycle and attach a sprocket to the crankshaft on the chainsaw engine. I will use a separate bike brake for the throttle, giving me 3 brakes total. To stop, my idea is to just lay off the throttle, and use the original bike brakes. Is there anything that may be an issue for this? Thank you.
You are going to need a mechanism to keep tension on the chain- maybe modifying a rear derailer. and a way to adjust it for alignment. Since you are going with one speed, maybe use a rear hub that has a foot brake in it that will replace the rear brake lever and will free up some handlebar space. Using a small metal container possibly in a saddle bag mounted higher than the engine will gravity feed the fuel without a pump. It will need to be vented.
Chainsaws might help you a lot with your heavy duty cutting jobs both inside your house and outdoors too. But, before you purchase one of them, it is suggested that you do some research first. Note down your requirements and these notes should include details of what tasks you are planning to do with a chainsaw. You should also check out whether your jobs are going to be done indoors or whether your cutting needs are primarily outdoors. This aspect is very important because it determines what type of chainsaw you shall be purchasing.
You should know that these saws come in two different types. One of them runs on gasoline and the other runs on electricity. Once you have completed noting down these points on a piece of paper, search the net and note down information about the different models that suit your requirements. Once this has been done, it is time to go meet someone who has been using chainsaws for a decent of time. Due to their working experience, they are the best person to seek advice from.
Show them your list and ask them to point out which chainsaw is best suited for your needs. To save time, it is recommended that you do not note down the cheap imports which are advertised in quite a number of sites. Their mean time between failures is very small and they tend to break down very quickly. Always go in for a unit manufactured by a reputed organization.
