Landscape Lighting Checks
Most Dallas residential landscape lighting owners will want to incorporate a lighting maintenance program. This will protect your investment and keep the system operating at peak performance.
Many Dallas landscape lighting professionals will offer a quarterly, semi-annual, or annual maintenance service program based on the size of the system. Typical maintenance packages include but not limited to: lamp replacement, lens cleaning, fixture adjustment/repair, transformer inspection.
Since the lamps are installed brand new from the factory during initial install, Dallas residential landscape lighting owners will want to periodically maintain all lamps at the same time in order to maintain longevity of the entire system. Type of lamp, lamp life, and operating time will determine the lamp maintenance schedule.
Example:
Lamp Type Lamp Life
Incandescent 900 – 1200 hours.
Halogen 2000 – 4000 hrs
Xenolux 8000 hrs
Average Lamp Life is based on lamps receiving 12 volts. Lamps fed 11 volts will operate up to 3 times longer. Lamps receiving 14 volts will fail to operate 7 times quicker than normal. If lamps seem to be burning out prematurely, a voltage test may be necessary to make sure the lamp is not receiving excessive voltage. Since different lamp types will burn out at different rates, it is best to include a maintenance schedule that will allow for frequent visits.
Dallas residential landscape lighting owners will also need periodic maintenance performed on their fixtures. Typically, a Dallas landscape lighting professional will remove all lenses and blow out all bugs, cobwebs, or other debris that may be trapped between the lamp and socket housing area.
After time and as plant materials grow, it may be necessary to either trim plant materials or re-aim fixture altogether to recapture the effect the lighting designer was originally shooting for. Most Dallas landscape lighting professionals will leave enough cable slack when originally installed in case fixture needs to be moved at a later date.
The lenses will normally be cleaned with a Windex-type solution followed by an application of Rain-x to minimize calcification.
Dallas Residential landscape lighting owners will also want to have their transformers maintained periodically. Bugs and debris will need to be blown out with compressed air. Lugs and terminals will need to be re-tightened and checked for continuity. Commons will need to be checked for amperage. Switching mechanisms and timers may require adjustments also.
