Chain saw chains do stretch, however not as far that it is out of the adjustment area of the chain saw. It is either the wrong chain or we are talking about a chain that should have been chucked "years ago". 40 hours is nothing. Stop by a chainsaw shop and ask them the correct procedure on tightening a chain and how tight it is suppose to be. Too tight is no good either.
You cannot remove links.
The proper tightness is when you grab the chain after sharpening (in the middle of the bar) and lift it upward so that the weight of the chainsaw pulls down on it. The bottom of the chain should "just about clear the chain groove track"when looking at it from the side. No looser, no tighter. That allows for the tightening of the chain (when it gets into a heated cut) and still being loose enough to allow the chain to rotate around to do cutting. Heating mainly happens due to lack of lubricant on the bar or/and a dull chain.
I have seen people tighten the chain up so there was nearly no clearance, so when it did heat up, the chain seized on the bar.

Maintaining your chainsaw parts in good working order means performing regular maintenance on your saw.

Too many chainsaws run their race too early because of lack of maintenance when some simple checks following regular use could have well helped to extend the life of a machine. Badly maintained parts can compromise a person's safety.

Major manufacturers do their best to promote maintenance of chainsaw parts to their customers as it not only saves them unnecessary expense but also plays a big part in keeping the user from getting into trouble from a safety angle.

Husqvarna and Stihl for example provide a ton of information on chainsaw maintenance and safety but they can do very little once the customer buys a saw and heads home with it.

The Chain

The chain is obviously one of the most worked parts of a chainsaw. Maintaining it in good order means longer use of your machine and limits safety issues.

Sharpening the chain is an important part of good chain maintenance. Experienced users will know the drill but inexperienced owners are well advised to seek the help of a professional. Chain sharpening requires the sharpening the cutting teeth as well as the depth guages between them.

Watch the length of the cutting teeth as once they are below at least 4mm, the chain will need to be replaced. When placing the new chain on the saw, you'll need to set the right tension because a loose fitting chain can easily slide of while a tight fitting chain can have ramifications on the bar.

Other Chainsaw Parts

While a good working chain is paramount to any saw delivering top performance other parts of the chainsaw such as the clutch, brake, air filter, bar and flywheels all need regular checking.

Lubrication is another issue. Again this concerns the chain and a non-lubricated chain can have a serious domino effect on the well being of other chainsaw parts which in turn will lead to safety issues.

how to buy obsolete parts for a makita miter saw model # 2401b?

I have a makita model # 2401b miter saw with a broken handle cover and it seems to be obsolete it sure is funny i can get every part i need from makita with the ex ception of this and the motor housing wich is the main item because without it i might as well ditch it and spend around another 350 bucks.Not on my watch!!!

If you manage to find an identical model used somewhere (will probably take forever), it will probably turn the one you have into the donor machine.

Even if the part is broken, as long as you have all the pieces (at least the big ones), it can be fixed. Devcon "plastic welder" should bond this (I assume it's abs plastic), and it will be as strong as new. Remove any squeezeout with a file or rasp after the glue cures.

In the world of computers, a GDI was always an acronym for 'Graphics Device Interface'. The same letters are now shared with a company called Global Domains International and its .ws domain suffix. The owners of GDI are two self-made millionaires named, Mike Reed and Alan Ezeir, who saw a opportunity to satisfy the growing demand for internet domains around the world. They looked for a marketable domain suffix and found a small country in the Pacific Ocean called Samoa (occasionally spelt Somoa) which owned the rights to domain names ending in '.ws'. After talks with their government, an agreement was drawn up. The Samoans were astounded to see 15,000 new registrations in the first month, particularly as they take a percentage of all .ws sales. This was in November 2000, since when .ws has become a household expression in the internet world. Mike and Alan then proceeded to market their success as an MLM internet business which is being used successfully by thousands worldwide. The cost of $10 per month is an attractive proposition. You get all the usual accouterments for an internet business: your own personalized ".ws" domain name, up to 10 email addresses, the hosting for your domain, an autoresponder, a sophisticated back office, including videos for marketing. The compensation plan is in 2 parts and both go down to 5 levels. There is a 10% payout for your direct sales and those of your qualifying affiliates. In addition, there is a $100 bonus for signing 5 new affiliates in a weekly period, and more for each further 5 in that week. The diagrams of the downlines are well illustrated, and there is lots of emphasis on the small monthly fee and the income that can be earned if all goes according to the plan of a 5 times 5 series of downlines, producing $3005 per month. The marketing video is attractively produced, convincing and persuasive. In addition there is a free 7 day trial and cancellation at any time. All income and payments are though PayPal, and the information and websites are available in several different languages. Are there any drawbacks? Well, it's an MLM system which is often perceived in peoples' minds with negativity, frequently because they have tried one or more in the past and have, as the majority like them, failed. Unfortunately, the low cost, although an attractive selling point, can be counterproductive as it attracts non active members without the motivation to work hard and retrieve their outlay. There is no mention of the marketing costs which can prohibitive if a resource budget is not available. It is a well known fact that there will be a 70 to 80% rejection rate from their prospects, which the new affiliate will have to cope with. Like all internet businesses, it's never as easy as the company advertising, and success takes a lot longer than the new members think. To be prepared to spend a lot more than you earn, which will be the case for most on starting, is not an easy situation to address. The compensation plan with its small commissions based on large numbers does not encourage a good sponsor mentoring relationship. Advice is available free of charge and at any time, so I feel that its value and that of the company training will be discounted. In conclusion, this is an attractive business proposition which has been well thought out and marketed. There is no doubt that large amounts of money can be made by experienced internet marketers who have a good list of contacts. For those with little or no experience of this form of business, the chances of success will be small; but maybe for $10 per month it's worth a punt!
