Snow Blower Paddles
Why do snow blowers need rubber paddles?
I have a single stage MTD 21" snow blower and the paddles are worn. Why should I replace them?
Thanks, Jim
If they are worn, they are picking up less snow. Many are made of rubber in case you hit rocks or uneven concrete so they do not break or jam the unit.

Snow blower broken. Small Toro with rubber paddle?
Nearly got done with the driveway and it stopped throwing snow. I seen a little spring on the snow. It was in the shop at least 6 times last year but this is the first problem I've had this year. It is about 8 years old. Time for a new one or should I continue to invest in this one?
To -R, you are a gem. I am 72 y/o female and didn't know a block from a roller. I read your answer, got out the book, looked at the pictures, went and bought a spring, installed it and PRESTO, I'm back in business. That spring was a lot cheaper than the repair shop. Thank you so so so much.
The spring you found, is the spring tension-er for the belt.
You can replace it, and you should be good to go.
It probably popped off because either a) the belt is worn out and stretching, or b) you hit some snow that made the blower die out.
Either way, the spring goes down on the lower belt roller and back to the block. Real easy to fix. Keep it. I have had my 20" toro paddle snow blower for well over 15 years, and It keeps going like a champ.

What Toro Offers
Toro offers many different kinds of snowblowers, specifically some electric models, single-stage gas models, and two-stage gas models. The electric models do not require mixing of oil and gas. They come in compact and easy to handle designs, and are also very lightweight. Electric snow blowers are ideal for small-sized snow jobs such as for clearing snow from decks, sidewalks, and stairs. Toro also offers an impressive collection of singe-stage snow blowers. Their single-stage snow blowers are easily maneuverable and are backed by powerful gas engines. Toro is well-known for the great throw distances of their snow equipments and the fact that their machines clears snow all the way to the pavement. However, if you have double or large driveways, Toro also offers two-stage snow blowers. These two-stage models boast of extreme power for heavy work, great throw distances, multiple speeds, and the widest clearing paths in the industry.
The Toro Power Shovel and Broom
However, despite the large number of Toro snowblowers offered in the market, there are two Toro snow machines that stand out. The first is the Toro Power Shovel, which comes with a 7.5-amp electric engine. The broom/shovel-type snow equipment can be used as a shovel and a snow thrower. This means that you can use th product even when it is not winter. All you have to do is flip the rotor and start using the shovel as a broom to clear leaves and other lawn debris. The handy, double-duty shovel and broom is easy to use, very lightweight, and easy to maintain. To start using it, you can just plug it in. It can handle up to 6 inches of snow depth and 12 inches of snow width per pass. When used as a shovel, the machine can clear up to 300 pounds of snow in a minute.
The Toro 1800 Power Curve
The second highly popular snow thrower from Toro is the Toro 1800 electric curve snow thrower, with an 18-inch clearing width and a 12-amp electric engine. It comes with a simple trigger starter and is very easy to maintain and to use. It can cut up to 10 inches of snow and can clear 12 inches wide paths. It also has a durable plastic body, metal handles, a 160-degree adjustable chute, and a safety key lock. The Toro 1800 Power Curve can throw snow up to a distance of 30 feet. The secret behind the popularity of this model is that it features the exclusive Power Curve system by Toro. The main feature of this system is that the machine uses a special curved rotor supplemented by a funnel-shaped housing. The 1800 also has rubber paddles that ensure that snow is cleared to the pavement. With this, you can clear away more snow faster and easier. The Toro 1800 is also protected from clogging and you know that the snow thrower is definitely an efficient worker that's prepared to keep you company during winter.
Pros: Patented Power Curve system, wide clearing paths, greatest throw distances, powerful electric engines.
Cons: Toro snow equipments are a bit pricey.
