I have a 1991 Chevey s10 and it will not start what is wrong?

I have replaced the fuel pump twice the distributor, rotor, cap, wires, plugs,fuel pump relay, fuel pressure relay, fuel injector, starter solenoid, ignition switch, fuel filter, I adjusted the distributor to the crank shaft pulley and the truck has run since so I know that is o.k. Can it be the timming chain? I am getting fuel to the motor and spark to the plugs. This has got me stumped. Any info would be appreciated, thanks.

I poured gas down the throttle body and it ran about ten seconds then shut down. It would not start again until I put more gas down it again. so it must be the fuel system I guess it is not getting enough gas, but what would that be from?

A couple of things to try comes to mind. First you say you are getting fuel? Have you did a pressure test at the fuel rail? Just because there is fuel pressent, doesn't mean there is enough pressure to force it through the tiny hole in the injector. Also; look for what we call a cold start injector. I'm not sure you would have one or not, but look around on the intake for an injector stuck in a different kind of location. It would have it's own fuel line going to it. I don't think your's has one but it might, I have saw stranger things. Where the big hose hooks to the snorkle, take the hose off and try to do this test: Go to the parts store and purchase a spray can of carb/choke cleaner. With the snorkle air intake hose off, manually open the throttle and give it a good spray. I mean a good spray for about 2-3 seconds right down the throat of the intake. Start the engine but DO NOT spray the cleaner in the engine at the same time unless you wish to catch yourself on fire! If the engine does not fire for a few seconds, then you have eliminated the fuel system as the culprit. If the engine runs then you might want to replace the fuel pressure regulator. It is located under the plenium,and one must remove the upper and lower plenium to replace it, If it is a throttle body type injector system. Bying gaskets you have to have the upper and lower intake gasket sets. One might consider purchasing a "Haynes Manual" that covers your vehicle in order to do the job. Since you never stated the engine size or type of injector system, makes it hard to pinpoint your problems. If it is the the type of injectors that are one injector per cylinder, you will need a noid light to check the pulse (fire) to the injectors one at a time. Check the refference voltage to the injectors with a meter and it should be no less than 5 volts dc. Check the ground strap to the engine, and to the body, without this the engine cannot run due to ground for the computer. The sensors have refference voltage to all of them and the computer gives them ground (Neg -) to make them operate. A fully charged battery that has good connections are critical, and the first thing to look at when one won't start. Last: Do a compression test on the engine to make sure the timing chain is not out on it. You should have no less then 115-125 pound of compression on each cylinder. If not, then suspect the chain is out, or a blown head gasket. The distributor won't turn on an engine with the chain all the way out, but it will on one that the chain has jumped teeth on the gears. One other thing, I have saw an engine not run on new spark plugs, purchased another set and it fired and ran fine, go figure? Check the ignition module, it will do the same thing, run sometimes and not at other times. I hope I have been able to help you. Good Luck!!
